Faculty Member, Learning and Teaching Centre
Senior Lecturer, Higher Education Development
About
Theresa is a Faculty Academic Director of Participation in Human Sciences and a Senior Lecturer in Higher Education at Macquarie University. Her research interests cover higher education development, specifically curriculum development and academic teaching.
• Participation pedagogy; she is particularly interested in aspects of assessment, reflection, the role of host supervisors and curriculum design in the many forms of Learning through Participation (LTP), that is, the whole range of experience-based learning (EBL) - problem-based learning, work Integrated learning, work-based learning, community engagement, practicum, cooperative education, collaborative education, service learning, supervision of doctoral students and so on.
• Cross cultural supervision for higher degree research students; this was the focus of an ALTC funded project that produced a series of resources to help candidates and supervisors. Research based on this material is underway with implications for the way we view international PhD candidates and their pathway through the university.
• Graduate Capabilities or attributes; her research seeks to understand how and why certain attributes or capabilities came to be and how they in turn affect pedagogy as well as what they reveal about the nature and importance of Higher Education.
In her previous life Theresa was a research scientist at Macquarie University in the area of micropalaeontology, specifically Chitinozoa. She remains interested in this area and in science education.
