About

Since enrolling in a Doctor of Philosophy with Queensland University of Technology, Linda has contributed to and developed a number of research projects; published widely in highly respected international peer-refereed journals in her field; and established extensive collaborative networks with leading scholars and industry stakeholders. In October 2008, Dr Graham was awarded one of 6 highly competitive Macquarie University Research Fellowships together with $49,998 funding to support the macro-stage of her international comparative research with Professor Roger Slee (Institute of Education, University of London) and Associate Professor Markku Jahnukainen (University of Alberta).  This research project, titled "The Political Economy of Special Educational Needs: a comparative analysis of international trends and policy developments" investigates trends in the diagnosis and placement of students with a disability in four educational regions across the world: New South Wales, Alberta, Finland and England. Using mixed-methods, the research tracks enrolment trends and maps these against changes in educational policy, funding allocation methods and attitudes towards students who experience difficulty in schools and with learning.  This work has already identified significant discrepancies in the diagnosis and segregation of students in non-normative categories of disability: emotional disturbance, behaviour disorder and autism.
