About

Greg is trained as a cultural anthropologist (U Chicago 1998), but has increasingly worked on biocultural modifications to the body and nervous system resulting from skill acquisition.  He has written extensively on capoeira (an Afro-Brazilian martial art and dance) and mixed martial arts ('no-holds-barred' or 'cage fighting').  He is starting a new project on cognitive variation among rugby players induced by cultural differences in training and developmental techniques.

He is currently working on a manuscript, The Athletic Animal: Sports and Human Potential, and co-editing, with Daniel Lende, a proposed volume on neuroanthropology.  He writes extensively on Neuroanthropology.net and culturematters.wordpress.com.
